Courthouse Security Division

The Courthouse Security Division personnel have the responsibilities of providing and maintaining an orderly and safe environment for all visitors and employees within Jackson County Courthouse facilities.  The Courthouse Security Division assumes these responsibilities in numerous courthouse locations including:

The integrity of courthouse security is vital to the uninterrupted functioning of the Court System.  To ensure the achievement of this goal, persons and their possessions entering Jackson County Courthouse facilities are, by court order, subject to security screening, including the use of walk-through metal detectors, hand-held metal detectors, x-ray machines, and Sheriff’s Office K-9’s.  The security checkpoints are the first line of defense against weapons and contraband being brought into courthouse facilities.  Prohibited items include, but are not limited to: guns, tasers, stun guns, knives, chemical mace, pepper spray, scissors, box cutters, knitting needles, nail files, or other items that may pose a threat.  Prohibited items that are not illegal to posses will be retained at the security checkpoint and returned to you when you leave the facility.

Courthouse facilities are often melting pots where litigants are brought together to resolve disputes.  Thus, it is required that Deputies conduct constant proactive and preventive patrol of all areas of the facilities, and remain abreast of court proceedings and courthouse activities.  Deputies respond to a variety of calls for service, including disturbances, duress alarms, taking persons into custody, escorts, parking enforcement, accident investigation, and other reports as needed.  They also provide security and protection for judges and juries.
