Deputies assigned to the ATV unit receive specialized training in the use and safe operation of the vehicles. The vehicles allow the deputies to respond to calls for service in areas where a normal patrol vehicle would not be able to access.
In addition to preventative patrols, the unit is assigned to conduct search, rescue, and recovery operations in areas inaccessible to regular motor vehicles or foot patrol. The unit also responds to assist other law enforcement agencies and for public relations opportunities.
